- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 cup onion, small diced
- 1/4 cup carrot, small diced
- 2 garlic cloves, chopped
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 medium beef tomato, chopped
- 28 oz tomato, canned, crushed (low sodium)
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 cup water
- 3 tsp Knorr© Roasted Beef Flavor Base
- 1/2 tsp basil, fresh, chopped
Directions
Print1. Heat a large sauce pot with oil on medium- high heat. Add the onion and carrots, and cook, stirring frequently until the vegetables are softened and the onions are translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add chopped garlic and cook for 30 seconds, or until fragrant.
2. Add the beef to the pot. Cook, browning the meat on all sides. Break up the meat mixture into dime sized granules, about 5-7 minutes.
3. Stir in the tomato paste, crushed tomatoes and chopped beef tomato. Add water and bring to a boil. Add beef paste.
4. Season with Italian Herb Seasoning blend. Reduce to a simmer. Cook uncovered for 20 – 30 minutes. Finish the sauce by adding freshly chopped basil.
5. Serve with your favorite pasta. Garnish with Parmesan cheese, if desired.
